Get schooled on tools and more at these do-it-yourself home improvement sessions

Also designed for beginners, Makeville Studio’s single-session, three-hour Tools & Techniques class ($195) will show you how to use traditional workshop machines, such as a table saw, band saw and drill. Once certified, you can move on to more challenging projects, like making a hardwood picture frame in Table Saw 101 ($185) or constructing a hardwood bench during the six-session Getting Started in Furniture Making ($575).

Or, give a battered and stained flea-market find a shiny new lease on life at 3rd Ward’s Furniture Refinishing class ($180-$225).

Home improvement

In-store workshops at Home Depot are offered every weekend and cover such topics as Interior Painting, Tiling Floors and Walls and Installing Interior Lights. Bonus: The NYC clinics have been adapted for smaller, urban spaces (think: closet organization). Register for the Home Improver Club online to sign up for the (free!) one-hour workshops. (Ladies, stores will offer a women-only Do It Herself workshop on April 15.)

Who cares if the super doesn’t show? The Hands-On Home Repair workshops at the New York City College of Technology will show you how to fix just about anything around the house. For just $50 per three-hour class, you can learn Basic Plumbing (repair a toilet, bleed a radiator, unclog a drain), Everyday Electricity (replace a fuse, change an outlet, install a fixture) and Installing Ceramic Tile (for floors and walls).

Sewing

Sometimes, all it takes is a new accessory to breathe life into bland surroundings. Like say, new throw pillows! And if you’ve got two hours to spare, that’s all you need to learn how to make a pillow cover at the Pillow-Making class at Make Workshop ($80).

Some sewing experience is required, but if you’re a newbie, sign up for one of Make’s Intro to Sewing Machine classes ($80) or take a two-night Simple Sew class at Brooklyn Mercantile ($115).

Got enough pillows in your life? At M. Avery Designs’ Home Decor Boot Camp, beginner and intermediate stitchers will learn basic sewing skills to whip up place mats, curtains, throws and other home decor over four two-hour classes ($149).

Upholstery

Reupholstering a chair or sofa is often beyond one’s means — not to mention one’s skills. But the pros at Furniture Masters, who’ve provided high-end, custom upholstery services for decades, have teamed up with the online shop Furnish-d to offer a how-to workshop. By the end of the five-week class, you’ll know how to upholster a club chair from the inside out — literally. Plus, you get to keep your finished piece ($1,800).

At the Furniture Joint, upholstery classes are offered by owner Matthew Haly on a monthly basis. Classes are small (there’s a limit of 10 students), so you’ll get plenty of one-on-one instruction and lots of hands-on practice time. After four weeks, you’ll go home with an upholstered-from-scratch ottoman ($460).

Interior design

Get insider tips on color, scale, proportion, fabric, texture and the dos and don’ts of decorating at Furniture Joint’s Interior Decorating workshop. Don’t expect four weeks of boring lectures, though. Here, in a class capped at six people, you’ll bring an example of a room you’d like to do over and discover practical ways to transform it ($410).

Just DIY it

Call or check the Websites for class schedules. Remember, many classes fi ll up fast. Also, be prepared to pay an extra fee for materials or to bring your own, especially for classes involving fabrics.
